You said, you have done CIVIL.. Its a last-long stream, where demand always overcomes the supply.

Don't worry about the professional network.
Regarding to the private OR public sector.
Civil has more scope in public sector rather than other fields. But, public sectors don't adopt / accept the changes the earlier on.

>> Pressure on each candidate is less.
>> Pay is more in initial & incentives are very regular & good.
>> You will enjoy the allowances but 'you may get bored of non-adoption of changes earlier on'..

>> Patterned / Scheduled / thorough (bit slow)Selection process.

Private Sector==>

>> Pay is based on talent. No job security.
>> Talent decides every aspect ( Pay / Allowances / Incentives / Promotions etc...)
>> Surely, there will be limitation to the promotions compared to public.
>> Very fast, adopts to the changes. You will not feel bored-some.
>> High scope of adopting new technologies, but because of high pressure you may some time feel your are lagging behind...

first we have to rember that govt job selection takes more and more time than private job it is a better to choose private job first later we can shift to private job when we get govt job.private sector companies are very flexible to change their technology as well as rules and regulations about their projects so, i think private companies are better to learn latest knowledge,stability of the carrier depends on your thoughts,reliability and work according to changes of the working invironment
