hello, i need a career advice. i have just completed my BE with ECE specialisation, and now i am not sure whether to stay in core industry(where lies my interest) or switch/opt for IT industry, which will provide beter oportunities to me.
The other option being taking GRE test.
kindly help.
Dear Anchal, First of all i want to assure you that your thinking of IT is better paying than core electronics job is not true. Core electronics areas like VLSI Design/ VLSI Verification/ VLSI Physical Design/ VLSI FE & BE Design are a lot booming field than IT field. You can get 5 times more salary in VLSI jobs than a IT professional at present. But the downside is, in VLSI requirements are less in number as compared to IT. So to be a part of that area you have to be expert in your field. Better go for a professional PG course in any VLSI field to get better opportunity.
Best of Luck.

I havent researched about the VLSI scope as of yet. If you have relevant information about the sites which could provide me those info, Kindly mention them here.
Thanks. :)
If i could get good opportnitz in my field as well, that will erase all the doubts and i could choose my field, happily. :)
Hi Anchal,
First of all I would advice you to go for that career option in which you have the interest. As you said your interest lies in your core ECE field, then it would be great if you start your career in that field.
Secondly, I want to make you clear that many people have perception that IT industry is a booming industry, so a person grows there very well. Although somewhere it is correct, but the other aspect is that there are a bulk of engineers working at IT companies of India. So, option of growing effectively and sparkling in a bunch of so many IT geeks is a tough task. So, a vast variety of competition exists there.
I have many friends who after working in IT companies have either gone for GRE or are now doing MBA.
But, the main scenario is that wherever you work, in whichever field, you have to work very hard to shine. So, my advice is that go for that field which you like. Then, it would not be hectic for you to succeed. Indeed you would enjoy the challenges there.
All the best for your future :)

Thats easier said then done.
I mean choosing between something that will pay you well and the other which gives you satisfaction, is being a very difficult choice to me. Lets be realistic, money does matter at the end of the day. :( its just getting tougher n tougher by every passing day.

Hi Anchal,
If you are going in money perspective and then changing your field, then I would advice you dont do this. I know money matters but there are other ways to do so.
Opt a job of your core field and then do MBA. Thereafter u can continue with your core industry with good company and high pay.
