Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib, was established in the year 1993, by Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Education Trust formed under the patronage of Shriomani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar, with the approval of the Govt. of Punjab. The college was a dream project of Panth Ratan S. Gurcharan Singh Tohra, who was President of SGPC at that time. There was paucity of quality institutions of higher education in the region, and students especially from rural backgrounds found it difficult to attain higher education in the region. Hence a need was felt to have an institute of excellence, in this region which will cater especially to the rural strata of the society and provide them equal chance of acquiring quality higher education without moving far from their homes.

The college is approved by the A.I.C.T.E, New Delhi, Ministry of H.R.D, Govt. of India and is affiliated to Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar. The college has earned accreditation from the NBA (AICTE) and International Accreditation Organization (IAO) for various programmes.
